What the Church Can Accomplish [VIDEO] – AOI – The American Orthodox Institute – USA

What the Church Can Accomplish [VIDEO]

+Jonah asked three years ago, where are our hospitals, our soup kitchens, our schools? Indeed, where are they? Below is a video of what a monastery in Russia is accomplishing. If they can do great things, why not us?

Starets Mihail started the monastery in 1994 with four brothers. Now, the monastery has 90 monks and they are raising 150 orphan children. Fr. Mihail was an orphan himself … The monastery is in Ucraina, 7 km from the northern Romanian border. They are serving in Ukrainian and Romanian languages because “we are Orthodox.”

An amazing story that needs to be translated in all languages and passed along until we get it….

“For me it is very painful because I went through all that trouble. Few understand how difficult it is when you are alone in this world; when you have nobody around you; when you want to eat and have nothing to eat; when you are without clothing and have no covering in the cold. I went through it all and asked the question: “God, why me?” ; “Why am I alone, and have no food, no shelter and no clothing?”; “Why everyone else is happy?” I didn’t find the answer back then but I found it today: “If life had not been so hard for me…had I not lived like that, then I would not have been able to understand so well these children … ” This is why God allows us to go through great tribulation!”

If one imagine oneself to be the well-regarded (and perhaps well-paid) chairman of a quasi-secular institution … well, one won’t even come close to Fr. Mihail’s results.

Simply beautiful and inspiring! I noticed it was translated into Bulgarian. My wife speaks both, so it was fortunate to follow this wonderful film! We needed to go get a tissue box, since we were brought to tears many times…..we were speechless at the love shown to these children. It only makes sense that the Orthodox Church should be opening orphanages in every country! We sent this film to everyone we know in Bulgaria, Serbia, and Macedonia. If someone has the software, my wife says she would be glad to translate it into English.

Fr. Mihail has a spirit that brings joy wherever he goes… As Orthodox Christians we know that in the presence of Christ there is hope, joy, peace and love.

I believe that the West should focus on DEPRESSION – The Plague of the 21st Century, which affects adults as well as children.
The modern man has ‘befriended’ two diseases: depression and addiction.

We suffer through these debilitating conditions as a consequence of sharing in the sinful state of modern humanity.

An astonishing 10 percent of the U.S. population was prescribed an antidepressant in 2005; up from 6 percent in 1996.
The World Health Organization has predicted that by 2030, more people will be affected by depression than any other health problem. Yet of all the dysfunctions of modern medicine, the way we treat depression may be the worst.
Are You Depressed, Or Just Human? by Dr. Andrew Weil

The premise that depression is strictly a bio-chemical problem is certainly an error…

Russia has had a high drinking problem and deaths as a result of boot leg liquor. The Orthodox Church can definately help with that problem and a lot more help with the eastern european population.

Interesting article that I read about a lot of successful Russians leaving Russia now because of the limits economic and politically there. Some going to Israel, one to South America and one to Japan. Also, stating that death rate higher than birthrate. Hopefully, the Orthodox Church could help people that are not strong believers become interested and find a reason to stay.
