The Chain of Catastrophe

Fr. Aris Metrakos

Fr. Aris Metrakos, priest at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in San Francisco, California, delivered this address at a memorial service for the victims of abortion held at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cathedral on the eve of the West Coast Walk for Life on January 23, 2009. In his talk, Fr. Aris offers reasons why abortion on demand became accepted in the culture, and what Christians must do to restore a culture of life.

A powerful address by Fr. Metrakos–it clearly sums up how God’s world-changing presence is our key to the defeat of the pro-abortion mentality. This is a fight that we will win, in God’s time. Thanks, Fr. Aris for your ongoing efforts–we love you.

Fr Ari’s words are powerful. He sees the truth: we didn’t get here because of a simple Supreme Court decision but by a gradual debasement of our morals.

Fr. Aris’ bold speech reminds all of us how important the American Orthodox Institute and Orthodoxytoday.org is. These two websites are part of the new Orthodox media in America and are vital link to the building up of American Orthodoxy.

Lets be honest it is only here that the great minds of Orthodox renewal are finding a home. Neither the GOA nor the Metropolis of San Francisco would publish this speech on their respective website. This is sad.

Even more tragic is that there is literally no mention of the Roe v. Wade Anniversary on the GOA website. The Archbishop was in town for the inauguration but could not stay the extra day to attend the March for Life with his brother Metropolitan Jonah. Archbishop Iakovos could find time to March with Dr. King but the present GOA administration could not find the time to support the great human rights struggle of the 21st Century. Human rights really is just a fashion phrased used by the GOA these days.

Bravo to Fr. Aris for his bold speech. Bravo for AOI and Orthodoxy Today for challenging the Orthodox media establishment and blazing a new trail for America’s Orthodox Christians! Many Years to the next generation of Orthodox leaders in America!
