(Lutheran) Jerusalem bishop denounces killing of Coptic Christians in Egypt

When are we going to hear from the Orthodox?

Geneva (ENI). Jerusalem Lutheran Bishop Munib Younan has denounced the killing of six Coptic Christians in Egypt and he offered support to the patriarch of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria.

Never going to hear from the “Orthodox” any comment on merely political matters would not be within our escatological mission. (Words used to reject the Manhattan Declaration). I’m afraid there is a gnostic fatalism growing from the dhimmi tree.

Well, I think this is an issue where protestants, and Cathloics and Orthodox can get involved. If the Copts suffer, then other christian groups suffer.

As an Orthodox Christian, I cannot understand why Orthodox bishops are so pussilanimous and won’t come to the support of their Christian brothers. We can’t simply chalk it up to fear or the natural kinship that Arab Orthodox feel for Arab Muslims, after all, this Lutheran bishop is an Arab.

    George, several possible answers:
    1. They don’t care for a variety of reasons
    2. They don’t know (too isolated)
    3. They are afraid (centuries of dhimmi persecution)
    4. Too busy at all the banquets they have to attend.
    5. All of the above

Michael, excellent distillalion of all the possible reasons.

#1 and #4 on my list really bother me as possibilities as they are symptoms of a difficult problem that affects us all. #2 & #3 can be dealth with if #1 is not true.

Greg, my favorite Agnewism was “nattering nabobs of negativism.” (I’m actually related to Ole’ Ted, my yiayia was a third cousin according to family lore.)
