]]>Why Florida? Because that is where all of us who are working on the project live.
As for retirees, many retire in Florida but most are not wealthy. Most are middle class. People retire here because of 1) the climate, 2) health care, and 3) the ground is flat. Warmth and sun is a healthy way to live as your body ages, lots of seniors means lots of doctors to care for them, and flat terrain makes it easy to move around. The clientele in the facility is no different than you would find in the north country.
When I first moved down to Florida I was surprised at how active the seniors were. Winter snows don’t keep them in because there is no snow.
]]>This is something we Orthodox should do, no doubt about it. As the Catholics have done.
Having said that, is there a reason we should limit this to elderly who are Orthodox? Aren’t Catholic hospitals and nursing homes available to anyone?
