McVeigh was not only a self-described agnostic, but he was lionized by no less than Gore Vidal, the grand old man of American letters. VIdal’s hatred for Christianity, traditional America, and his forays into blasphemy are well-known. Why Vidal was not taken to task for his championship of McVeigh (the modern John Brown) is beyond me. The only theory I have is that Vidal represents the dominant strain of secular-leftism which disdains all that is good and wholesome about our past. I guess the old adage is right: you are known by the friends you keep.

If the media had reacted to the Nidal Hassan massacre in the same manner, people who have wanted to censor Muslims and have them deported.
I have asked several folks who were convinced Loughner was a right wing nut, if they were just as indignant to the religious/political massacre by Nidal Hassan and have been met by stoney silence. There is definitely a high level of intellectual dishonesty happening among those who consider themselves left of center. It is quite pathetic.

McVeigh was a self-described atheist as well, which is a little piece of information conveniently not mentioned in the media. Granted, he held to a lot of right wing beliefs, but the whole point is the lack of precision in how these murderers are described. The power of the narrative is that it often lacks attention paid to particulars that demonstrate a particular event is, in fact, not an example of that narrative at work.

Well, the reason the right was blame was he got upset in 2007 when congressmen Gilford answered a question in spanish. The media assume that he was another right winger that hated illegal immirgants and yes, and even I who wants to do something about illegal immirgation, knows that some on the right go overboard in their criticism of illegal immirgants always complaining how 3rd world they are. But the liberal media likes to think everyone is a Timonthy McVeigh out there sometimes.

George: Just as the church has got to come to grips with the progress of medicine and so loss of widowers as bishops (for the Orthodox) and also priests (for the Roman Catholics) or be doomed, so too journalism is never going back to the days owning sufficient capital resources was required before being able to broadcast. I suggest serious journalists, those who are not partisans posing as journalists, accredit sources who are committed to the best of that profession, and like accreditation boards, pay to be reviewed and if passing be awarded the ability to display a certification logo.

The recent savage shooting of several innocent people in Tucson, Arizona by Jared Lee Loughner — a schizophrenic pot-smoking bigot — has been used by the media and several interest groups to blame various ideologies for this shooting. I call it “the blame game.” Not since McCarthyism prevailed in America in the late 1950s has there been such distortion and irresponsibility by the news media and self-interest groups.

It is time for the news media to report the news in an objetive manner — and leave the analysis and opinion to the reader or listener. At the same time, self-interest groups need to stop blaming other groups or individuals for ugly occurrences, because doing so only exacerbates this kind of a situation.
