Actually, the neo-cons are worst since they want to have their cake and eat it too. No tax increases but heavy military involvement. This has made them upset about proposed military cuts but they don’t want to pay the bill for what they are going. Actually, a recent book that I read states that the early Byzantine empire had the same problem with its land aristocracy that also didn’t want to foot the bill for their defense and this might have lead to the defeat of the Byzantines in the Balikins and the places they recaptured in the West and a lot of the breadbasket and economic areas of the empire like Syria Egypt to the Moslems.
