How true, although poverty and unemployment know no barriers of skin color or surname: Most beneficiaries of forms of public assistance are identified as White. Also, this misdirected focus on aid to the needy as a cause of the current Second (GOP) Depression In A Lifetime attempts to make us forget that it was caused by the exotic financial speculations of the rich, and predatory lending practices, as well as undertaxed, overcurried corporations … all while they made JOBS a leading U.S. export. In addition, the previous Administration and its congress “lifted the debt ceiling” on (long, unsuccessful) Wars Of Choice, and on unhelpful business subsidies — “the conservative Nanny State.”

Orthodoxly speaking, God has allowed such corrupting, tempting power in this country to the rich for reasons of His Own. But that doesn’t mean we Orthodox have to enable their delusion and genocide. I have plenty of delusions of my own, but God have Mercy on us all.
