You are right Cynthia. My mother, who was in her early teens during WWII, lived in the same town as the Ten Booms. She didn’t know the family but everyone knew who the Ten Booms were. She said that the story, although remarkable, wasn’t unique. The Dutch resistance movement was highly organized and Nazi collaborators were few. There we others like the Ten Booms we never heard of she said.

And a lot of her family died in the camps. She was let out of the camp because the Nazi’s made a mistake. There were probably a lot of good Orthodox, and Roman Catholics and Protestants that helped the Jews during that time period that we are not aware of.

They attempted no superhuman task. They stood up for a simple matter, an elementary principle: the right of the individual to choose his manner of life and to live in freedom” (Scholle 4).

And we have folks who refuse to even raise a voice of objection to all manner of impingements on such freedom.

St. Alexander, pray for us.
