Andrew, Fr John Peck was a GOA priest who wrote presciently and prophetically but he was silenced. If what you say is true, that the majority of GOA priests “don’t care” or more likely, are too complacent to upset the status quo, then no introspection will take place.

What’s funny about this is that we laymen are constantly exhorted to “repent.” Entire sermons are given on the meaning of metanoia and how it means “a change of will” more than simply feeling sorry for our sins.

Again, if what you’re saying is true, it’s ironic that so many prelates and clerics in the GOA don’t feel that metanoia applies to them.

Lets not forget Fr. John Peck whose prescient essay The Orthodox Church of Tomorrow is one of the most significant contributions in recent times.

George may be right about priests uniting and writing in but I was just told by one priest the nobody cares about American Orthodoxy and it is just a distraction.

I personally think that the dam might break if some GOA priests actually start contributing to this and other like-minded blogs in an overt fashion. It’s quickly becoming apparant that among the big three, only the OCA has become intellectually honest, while the AOCA is probably on this same trajectory. Let us pray that this happens with the GOA. (It was a good first step that +Demetrius took when he wrote his recent encyclical. A very good step.)

Well said and we all need to work together to bring the truth into the light no matter how bad it is and we all need to work for a united Orthodoxy and we all need to help those bishops who speak out on the social issues as well as the united Orthodox question.
