As for freedom of religion in Greece, the 150,000 Muslims in Greece
have been well treated and protected in contrast to the Greek Christians
in Turkey and Turkish occupied Cyprus. The Roman Catholics, Pentecostals
and the Baptists have Churches operating in Athens quite openly.
The notion that Greece does not have freedom of religion is propaganda
coming from the secular elitists in the European Union. The Church of
Greece rightfully prohibits proselytism in Greece. During the 1990’s,
Greece had a major problem with the “Church of Scientology” which
apparently started making inroads with young people. Greek
Scientologists were discovered in effect manipulating young people
and even keeping secret lists of government officials and Church leaders
who were suspicious of this groups activities.
Do not be deceived by the Socialists. They are anti-Orthodox to the Core.
They have no respect either for Greece’s soveriegnty and history, nor for
the Church. They look down on the Church and on the faithful of Greece
who are perceived as if they are superstitious fools.
The Socialists are also have anti-Monastic prejudices. The best thing about
Greece is Orthodoxy. Many Greeks have more trust and respect for the
Bishops and especially the Monks than for the politicians.
The previous reign of the Socialists was marked with a provocative attack
against the Church and its beloved leader the late Archbishop Christodoulos.
In addition, the European Union is very clearly anti-Christian. The
Church of Greece rightfully rejects its demands. The European Parliament
once advised all member states to recognize gay marriages. The Church of
Greece has made clear it will actively oppose any such agenda.
The Socialists are looking to remake Greece in the image of present day
Europe. Looking at the trends in present day Europe, it is appalling to
see the extent to which secularism has uprooted the Western Churches.
In addition to this is the growing influence of Islam. With growing numbers of Muslim immigrants (legal and illegal)the Mosques in Western Europe are
full while western Churches are empty.
The task of all the Orthodox Churches is very difficult in this day. The
Romanian Orthodox Church vociferously protested against the legalization of
abortion in Rumania, as did the Church of Cyprus before those countries
joined the EU.
The Church of Greece has the very difficult task of preventing Greece from
becoming like the Western European countries.
