Europe shows tolerance to all denominations as national customs, as it wishes to keep its imperialistic interests, but Europe itself is not attached to any of them. But when it has achieved its political goals, then it will swiftly settle accounts with these vain folk beliefs.

Why am I not surprised? This “freedom of worship” will provide cover for those ecclesiarchs who have already bought into the libertine agenda (ECUSA, Tony Campbolo, etc.). My worry of course is that the more worldly jurisdictions of American Orthodoxy will gladly accede to this accommodation. As long as they can wear their pretty robes and prance around church, they’ll still be “Orthodox.” This is how American dhimmitude will transpire. Its intellectual heft will be provided by the likes of Frank Schaeffer.

Well, this is the problem of modern liberalism which is of course different from liberalism of the 19th century. Obama and company represent the new liberalism that started in the late 19 century and evolve during the 20th century. As George stated the old American liberals supported the country ad the second world war got us out. Like William Gladstone of England over Barrack and company anyday.
