When people hear of this torture they think, “I could never be that brave. I would just give in and say whatever they wanted.” What Fr. George says is that this was true of many prisoners, including himself.

In this book, “Christ is Calling You!”, Fr. George speaks with the editor, the Nun Nina, at length about his experiences. In talking about Pitesti he said, “It was a spiritual fight, between good spirits and evil spirits. And we failed on the field of battle; we failed, many of us, because it was beyond our ability to resist … The limit of the human soul’s resistance was tried there by the devil.”

(My beloved) know that our relationship with God is not a joke; know that this whole world with all its civilization is a fad. You closed your eyes forever (when you die – transl. note) and will no longer know about civilization or the endeavors to the Moon or Mars, and so on … All are shadows/hollows; only one thing is truthful: our relationship with Christ, the immortality of our soul and what awaits us beyond death, aiming an eternal torment or the eternal life.
