Great suffering changes the way people think and live. Distractions, entertainment and temptations are the tools used to enslave people who ironically consider themselves “free”. Legalization of drugs is perhaps intended to prevent people from noticing the futility of life without God. The meaning of a life without God has vanished from the moment one becomes estranged. One can lie to himself for a wile, he can keep his eye on some short or long term goals, but after a while they will have to face the fact that life without God is useless and absurd.

The modern man is afflicted by the malady called rationalism . He lost the awareness of the immortal soul and believes that a man is the sum of his own thoughts and the desirous body. He is continuously surrounded by noise, and fragments of misleading information. Often, his thoughts are someones else opinions. He does not have the stillness to notice that his thoughts are not his own, but he trusts and defends them.

Christianity is not only the driving force behind morality. It is the true religion!

The act of Transfiguration, when Moses–giver of the Old Testament law and Elijah–one of the most noteworthy prophets of the Old Testament, appear talking to Jesus, shows the link between the Old and New Testament. For us Orthodox Christians ,the supreme, mysterious and glorious Act of the Almighty Creator is more important than the origin of the universe, health, wealth, correct politics or nationalism. He demonstrated His own power over sin, disease, and death; that is His power over nature. The Everlasting King Incarnate was arrested, tortured, convicted in a “court”, and hung on a cross by envy and hatred. He, the Life, the Way and the Truth arose from the dead. This is THE ESSENCE OF CHRISTIANITY, and it is not possible to be considered orthodox unless you believe Christ is coming back as He promised. The Bible describes His second coming: He will come in Power and Glory. The second coming, unlike His first coming, will reveal His true nature. He will come with his heavenly and angelic army. All humanity will witness His coming, and those who do not belong to Him will be terrified.

Those who do not belong to Christ are trying everything to divert all humanity from the true God and to prepare them to receive the false messiah. The false one cannot come unless people are estranged from the true God. This fight went on and on for centuries and centuries till present time. Many suffered atrociously in Communist camps, prisons and torture chambers.

You know, Trifkovic makes some excellent points. The one that leapt out to me was that neither our Sec of State, nor any other eminent personage attended the enthronment of the new patriarch of Serbia.

Just curious, where was the newly formed Episcopal Assembly in America speaking in “one voice” on this issue to our gov’t? Wasn’t one of the bailiwicks of these new assemblies to speak to the relevant gov’t authorities on matters of urgency to Orthodoxy?

Now, we could surmise that opposition to the homosexualist agenda is a dead letter. A brazen (and sad) assumption but one certainly within the realm of possiblity. Regardless, why was no mention made to the State Dept ahead of the new patriarch’s enthronement.

On a tangential note, it was only the OCA which sent a representative to Pec. In this regard, it acted like a mother church.

Cynthia, agreed. The GOP has gone along with their program in order to kowtow to the Chamber of Commerce types who love the cheap and docile labor. As much as I admire Reagan –quite possibly the greatest president of the twentieth century–the Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty act of 1986 was a horrible stain on his reputation.

Well, La Raza has con both Democratics and Republicans. While La Raza supports Democratics, some Republicans because business interest like cheaper labor supported the big goal of La Raza, and President Reagan most foolish act was to legalized about 3 million people that came here illegality, both parties are to blame and open borders people like Soros and La Raza take advantged of it.

About immirgation, while hispanics that have came here illegality make a lot more money than they did in Mexico or Central America, the drug culture not just the cartels has been imported to Mexico and Central America, and drug addiction is just as bad in La or Houston among hispanics as among whites. Meth was a drug that started in California’s inland counties and was favored by both whites and hispanics and was spread across the country. Also, some states like California have moved more liberally socially have the large jumped in the hispanic population since a lot of the non-hispanic population that was more socially conservative left the state. Not saying that some hispanics are socially conservative but some are not.
