Also, the law codes of early Orthodox countries go against those behaviors. Granted, we don’t have the same political and economic system of those earlier civilzations since we are not living in the middle ages in a preindustircal setting but moral teachings by the church fathers and the disapproval of earlier societies in Byzantium or Russia or Serbia and so forth should still hold they took direct action since they wrote about it in their societies.
