In reply to Greg. Think about it--if papal supremacy and universal jurisdiction is removed from the RCC model of church order, what do they have left? Every variation in doctrine and practice from we Orthodox flows from the Pope's singular and unique authority. That is why Pope Benedict can say, as he did, that all would be fine between us if we would just submit to the authority of the Pope and Arb Hilarion can say, all will be fine if the RCC just drops the idea of the authority of the Pope.

I wonder what Orthodoxy would be like if the rank and file said... "Wow! Archbishop Hilarion thinks that the Orthodox and the Catholic Churches have only some differences in theology and models of church order and the differences are not fundamental. My initial reaction is to want him excommunicated; but maybe I should listen to what he says, and follow his lead, and relate to the Catholics as he is doing." What would Orthodoxy be like if people actully followed their leaders?

Am I misreading something, or has yet another bishop with international notoriety stated, as did the EP in his interview with Charlie Rose, that the only significant difference between Orthodoxy and Catholicism is recognition of the papal claim to universal jurisdiction?
