One reason for the stagnation and the correction of gender ratios (the ideal being 1:1) is that fully 1/3 of all non-Arab and non-Russian (and I use that term advisedly) Orthodox Christians repatriated to their respective motherlands, either to fight in the Balkan Wars or because they had no intention of remaining in the States except to make some quick money and go back.
