Although I do not want to sound like a pessimist, I must be realistic and say “I will believe it when I see it,” insofar as the reopening of Halki Seminary is concerned. There have just been too many promises in the past by Turkey to reopen the Halki Seminary, and none of them has resulted in its reopening.
I believe that the European Union’s prerequisite for Turkey to reopen Halki Seminary before it will be allowed to become a member of the EU — which Turkey has been trying desperately to join — will be the primary reason for the Seminary’s reopening, hopefully in the near future.
