Comments on: Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Optimistic on Halki Seminary Reopening https://www.aoiusa.org/7131/ A Research and Educational Organization that engages the cultural issues of the day within the Orthodox Christian Tradition Wed, 07 Jul 2010 12:11:46 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.3.3 By: Andrew https://www.aoiusa.org/7131/#comment-12661 Wed, 07 Jul 2010 12:11:46 +0000 https://www.aoiusa.org/?p=7131#comment-12661 Lets say Halki does open… will the seminary and its faculty have the ability to teach the Orthodox Faith and its history without government impediment. A Halki seminary that is neutered by the Turkish government would be a disaster.

There have just been too many promises in the past by Turkey to reopen the Halki Seminary, and none of them has resulted in its reopening.

I believe that the European Union’s prerequisite for Turkey to reopen Halki Seminary before it will be allowed to become a member of the EU — which Turkey has been trying desperately to join — will be the primary reason for the Seminary’s reopening, hopefully in the near future.
