Soros Money to Fund NCC Lobbying Efforts

NCC-national-council-churches

Source: Institute for Religion and Democracy The National Council of Churches will be using grant money from atheist billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Institute to power its political agenda on Capitol Hill. Even while sinking financially, the National Council of Churches – a group with the ostensible mandate to engender unity between disparate Christian denominations – continued its leftward track last week as its governing board met in New York City to discuss its advocacy initiatives for the coming fiscal year.  The NCC has been forced to pare down its staff roster and budget for years in order to account for declining revenues from member denominations and foundations, and has had a history of making up these deficits by soliciting grants from politically charged, liberal institutions (to download IRD’s exposé of the NCC’s financing, click here). Several left-leaning resolutions, including those aiming to promote relaxed immigration policies, were passed and … [Read more...]

The open society and its enemy

Source: The Spectator George Soros has donated $1 million to a campaign to legalise cannabis in California. The Guardian reports (see here for a comment): The cash infusion, one week before Californians vote on a measure that would let anyone over 21 grow and possess up to an ounce of marijuana and allow local councils to tax sales of the drug, marks the first major investment by Soros in the mid-term elections. For several years now, the billionaire Soros has been effectively bankrolling the global campaign for the legalisation of drugs through his Open Society organisation. His influence in undermining western understanding of the crucial role of the law in containing the terrible individual and social effects of illegal drugs cannot be overestimated. But this in turn is but one aspect of the astonishing influence Soros has bought for himself in undermining key cultural building blocks of western society. This important speech delivered a few days ago in the US by … [Read more...]

Eastern Europe Versus the Open Society

Source: Chronicles of Culture Magazine Excerpts from a speech to the H.L. Mencken Club, Baltimore, October 23, 2010 Two weeks ago the first “gay pride parade” was staged in Belgrade. Serbia’s “pro-European” government had been promoting the event as yet another proof that Serbia is fit to join the European Union, that is has overcome the legacy of its dark, intolerant past. Thousands of policemen in full riot gear had to divide their time between protecting a few hundred “LBGT” activists (about half of them imported from Western Europe for the occasion) and battling ten times as many young protesters in the side streets. The parade, it should be noted, was prominently attended by the U.S. Ambassador in Belgrade Mary Warlick, by the head of the European Commission Office, Vincent Degert of France, and by the head of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission in Serbia, Dimitris Kipreos. Needless to say, none of them had attended the enthronment of the … [Read more...]

Jim Wallis and the Soros connection

For years I've been critical of Jim Wallis, the self-styled "prophetic voice" (his term) of Progressive politics in the American public square. "Prophetic voice" is a term that borrows from the Christian moral lexicon to lend moral authority and offer religious cover to secular Progressive ideology. Wallis operates in the mold of the National Council of Churches (NCC) and conflates Christian thinking with Marxist social dogma. Like the NCC, Wallis was lost in the wilderness for decades. "Christian Progressives" are dogged by a sense of their own irrelevance. An ideology which unequivocally dismisses religion doesn't have much room for professional religious types like Wallis or the NCC. He seemed to have found his voice after the Obama election however, rising to become one of Obama's "religious advisers" and all around gadfly on the Progressive speaking circuit and occasional appearances on MSNBC. But there's trouble in Wallis land. It turns out George Soros has been pumping … [Read more...]
