ancient-faith-radio-banner

From Kevin Allen: Let me introduce the new Ancient Faith Radio podcast Glory To Thee: A Chanter's Workshop, with host Dr. Stephen Kouri, of Saint Luke (Antiochian) Orthodox church in Garden Grove, California. Dr Kouri is a longtime chanter and chant instructor and a trained voice musician. One of the great needs in the Orthodox Church is the edification, encouragement and training (beginner and intermediate) of our Readers and Chanters in the Byzantine chant. This podcast takes a "workshop-like" format and will train prospective chanters as well as improve upon the skills of existing chanters within the Byzantine tradition of chant. All eight irmologic and sticheraric tones will be taught and work-shopped (IE practiced) as in a live workshop-seminar format. Each program will focus on one tone and its plagal (companion). Each program will build on the other, with some theory, lots of practice and some Q & A. These programs are designed to be interactive. They are especially … [Read more...]

Unraveling Chambesy — Administrative Unity In Our Time

Presented by Ancient Faith Radio

Our canons call for there to be one bishop in one place but here in America as well as other countries of the so called “diaspora” immigration and pastoral concerns have served to violate those canons. To address this issue, the leaders and representatives of all of the autocephalous Mother Churches were convened by HIs All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew first in Constantinople (modern day Istanbul) and later in Chambesy, Geneva, Switzerland to commission certain Episcopal Assemblies who will in turn develop regional plans to correct this anomaly. To help you sort through this complicated process, Ancient Faith Radio has produced a 2-part documentary featuring Fr. Mark Arey, General Secretary of SCOBA (The Standing Conference of Orthodox Bishops in America), Charles Ajalat, former chancellor of the Antiochian Archdiocese and long time champion of Administrative Unity, Metropolitan Jonah, primate of the Orthodox Church in America, and Nick Katich, an attorney who … [Read more...]

The god Called Earth

stevethebuilder

Couples who refuse to have children in order to protect the environment, says Steve Robinson, "reject religion and dogma, (yet) their devotion to the earth is indeed a religious devotion very similar to the ancient pagans." In fact, the "eco-fundamentalists has a version of the prosperity gospel… we 'serve the earth god,' name it and don’t claim it, and you get nice stuff and exotic vacations." Robinson continues, "The ecologist and Orthodox Christian agree that the human being is indeed taken from the dirt of the earth and thus shares in the nature of the earth itself. But Christianity says he also is given the breath of God who created the very dirt from whence he came, and so he shares in the nature of the spiritual and is given dominion over the dirt, but not for gluttonous consumption but as a means of expressing love in the image of the one who created all things out of love."
